Shaina Magdayao couldn’t be more honored to attend the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, or Directors’ Fortnight, as part of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival that is being held in Cannes, France this week.

The actress went to represent Lav Diaz’s dystopian film “Ang Hupa” (The Halt) as it made its world premiere this Wednesday, May 22.

Aside from Shaina, the movie stars actors Piolo Pascual, Joel Lamanagan, Pinky Amador, and Hazel Orencio.

Photos of her first Cannes attendance were shared by the 29-year-old star on Instagram.

Around since 1969, Directors’ Fortnight is an independent section organized by the French Directors Guild that runs parallel to the Cannes Film Festival.

Among the 24 films selected, “Ang Hupa” is one of the three entries from Asia alongside Takashi Miike's "Hatsukoi" (First Love) and Johnny Ma's "Huo Zhe Chang Zhe" (The Live to Sing).

Quoting Lav in an interview last April, Philstar reported of its storyline: “It is the year 2034 AD and Southeast Asia has been in the dark for the last three years, literally, because the sun hasn’t shone as a result of massive volcanic eruptions at the Celebes Sea in 2031. Madmen control countries, communities, enclaves and bubble cities. Cataclysmic epidemics razed over the continent. Millions have died and millions have left.”

Having debuted last May 14 and 15, respectively, the 71st Cannes Film Festival and Directors’ Fortnight are set to run until May 25.
